Wikipedia Mobile

There won’t be many people who don’t know about Wikipedia as it frequently pops up in search results for just about any topic imaginable. Their official app has been specially developed for browsing their huge database of content more efficiently. Like the website, the app is free to download and use.

Although the app looks pretty boring, it does make it easier to read the articles as you don’t have any confusing elements getting in the way. Like the website, you get related information and the odd image here and there. Articles can be saved for accessing later, and you don’t need an internet connection in order to view them.

What lets the app down is the fact is still feels like a browser rather than an app. Browsing from article to article doesn’t feel a whole lot faster (if at all) than the default Safari web browser. Despite this, Wikipedia Mobile is still well suited to schools as it provides sole access to the service without any distractions. Unlike other Wikipedia apps for iPad, this one won’t cost you a penny.
